Springtime in Alaska is such a beautiful thing for many different reasons. It's the start of our amazing summers. 24 hour daylight. Warm weather and glowing sun light. Melting snow & dry roads. It means BBQ's and days at the lake, camping trips and bike riding. It is truly a beautiful place to be this time of year.
Spring means lots of things for people. For most, it's a time to start breaking out of our winter shells, our hibernation period. It's time to let loose, enjoy ourselves, (not that we can't all year round), but there's just something about the sun that makes me want to "get up & go". I have a hard time sitting around doing nothing to begin with, so the fact that it's warming up and everything is melting makes me really, REALLY, excited.
I can't wait to get out on the dry sidewalks and pull my daughter on the bike or push her in the stroller, something that she hasn't experienced she was a brand new little life. It's so much fun knowing that each year she will be able to enjoy new adventures, see new things, and have new fun.
I mentioned before that we were ready to get out of our condo that we've outgrown, so spring time for us also means our search for our dream home becomes so much more real. It means going thru our things and deciding what we really need to hang on to and what can be donated, trashed, or saved and packed to move on with us on our journey.
It also means back to work for my husband. He works very hard for our family and I appreciate him more than I can ever say, or show. It means 6-8 week hitches while he is up north. Long talks when we are both exhausted, him from working 10-12 hour shifts and me from working and raising our little wild child. At the end of the day we are both doing what we need to, to get to where we want to be. We have our times of disagreement, (when I say "times" I mean, when AREN'T we disagreeing?), just kidding! - but all in all, I think we work pretty well together. Being the wife of a "slope worker" isn't easy, but we make it thru. At the end of the day we still love each other and our family more than anything, and to me, that's what counts.
So, everyone that's starting to get "Spring Fever" - get out and enjoy it. Live it up, the most beautiful time of the year is right around the corner, the time us Alaskans look forward to all year long! Happy Springtime!
Enjoy your Sunday Funday.
Jess
